Recommended must reads:
The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls. This is a memoir: her life is incredible, I mean you cannot believe someone lived this life and lived to become a successful member of society. The book is well written and so engrossing that you can’t put it down. Enjoy! — Rose
The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion is, without a doubt, the most
powerful memoir I’ve ever read. This book details the author’s thoughts, actions, and emotions during the year following her husband’s sudden death. How extraordinary and courageous for Ms. Didion to bare her soul in this way for us! At times I felt almost voyeuristic, being let in to such a private and tender room of her life. Writers, as most of us understand, tend to process even the most difficult situations (maybe especially the most difficult situations) by putting pen to paper. I’ve heard it said that we learn to think by writing. And while that may be true, for those who have learned the craft (and few have learned it as exquisitely well as Ms. Didion), we may, if extremely lucky, learn to live again by writing as well. — Johnett
